Born and raised in Los Angeles California, Jo Evelyn Parker started playing at the age of 6 years old.  Encouraged by her mother, Dr. Lois Parker, She enhanced her talent by attending piano classes at the USC School of Theater and Performing Arts, Los Angeles City College, and private lessons from gifted musicians around the city.

Known not only for her exquisite hair styles and impeccable makeup and fashion flair, Jo Evelyn has had many, many accomplishments in her life and music career, using her musical gift to help congregations, conferences, concerts, and workshops all over the city of Los Angeles, California and the USA.

Jo Evelyn served as the Music Director for the Los Angeles Cathedral, for many years, founded and directed under the leadership of her sister, Ms. Trenora Parker, where she co-wrote many of the songs and played keyboard on their recordings.

The high-lite of Jo Evelyn’s career, was receiving the “Organist of the Year” Award in 1986, presented by the late Rev James Cleveland, the late Dr. Rodena Preston, and the Los Angeles Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America.

Jo Evelyn is a long time member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and has traveled all over the USA.  She has conducted music workshops in, Los Angeles, Arizona, Houston TX, Mississippi, and Kansas City. 

She is currently the Assistant Minister of Music of The Los Angeles Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, under the direction of Herman Jones, and Chapter Representative, Pastor Calvin Bernard Rhone, where she also serves as Organist and Director.

Jo Evelyn was the former Minister of Music of the Tower of Faith Church and director of The Tower of Faith Youth Choir, who were the 1st place winners, of the 1995 Quaker Oats Voices of Tomorrow Youth Choir Competition.  Later, she became a Judge of the competition.

In 1997, Jo Evelyn played the piano on the set of the hit sit-com, “Living Single” featuring her sister Trenora Parker & The Los Angeles Cathedral Choir, along with Special Guest Recording Artist Ce Ce Winans.

On November 15th 2003, Jo Evelyn was selected as an Honoree for the 11th Annual “Musicians In Actions” Awards for her outstanding and dedicated services in the field of gospel music.

Jo Evelyn was also the former “Minister of Music” at The Brookin’s Community A.M.E. Church for 3 years.  Under her leadership, the Brookin’s “Majestic Voices” Youth Choir, were the 1st. place winners in the youth category at the McDonald’s Gospel Fest in 2004.

In addition, in 2017, She was a committee member and worked with the 300 Voice Mass Choir of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. This position was appointed to her, by the Chairman of the Board, Bishop Albert Jamison.

On August 19, 2017, she received an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Sacred Music from The Next Dimensions University for her outstanding leadership and contributions towards the gospel music industry.

Along with her artistic musical ability, she holds a College Degree from West Los Angeles College in Office Administration and Management.  She is also currently employed with the Federal Government as a Senior Case Technician for the Pasadena Office of Disability Adjudication and Review.

She is presently the Minister of Music at the Normandie Community Worship Center Church under the leadership of Superintendent Lazell L. Rodgers, where she has coordinated Annual Spring and Christmas Musical Concerts, and Revival Fire Services.

Most of all, Jo Evelyn is saved, baptized at the age of 10, sanctified and filled with the Holy Spirit! She loves the Lord and has dedicated her entire life to serve and please him.
